La Bandita
Oplà

Oplà

A humid summer in southern Sardinia. Nina, aged 7, suffers from insomnia and loses herself between reality and imagination. Her mother, a dancer, manages to stay close to her despite her own problems and work commitments. Her father, an ambiguous and mysterious man, takes her on an inner journey that reveals conflicts and losses.

Nina's story is, in part, the story of my childhood, made up of disjointed memories and contradictory family recollections. It is also partly inspired by the children I have met in my private life, in the schools where I have taught and in my research. The short film stems from the need to recount, through the eyes and experiences of a child, the process of dealing with childhood trauma involving abandonment and the absence of a father figure.

A hybrid and experimental visual work, alternating live action images with family archive footage treated with rotoscope animation. Website: https://ginkofilm.it
